Manufacturing Supervisor - 2nd Shift

JOB SUMMARY

 

This position is responsible for planning and directing the activities of a production team.  The manufacturing supervisor provides direction, coaching and development opportunities for team personnel.  This position is responsible for driving continuous improvement to improve safety, quality, delivery, employee engagement and ultimately reduce costs.

 

This is a 2nd shift position with core hours of Monday - Thursday 2:45pm - 1:15am.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  1. Prepare work schedules, assign work and oversee the output of team members in assigned area.
  2. Identify, troubleshoot and resolve bottlenecks, process failures, incomplete or outdated procedures, staffing issues, supply chain problems, and/or training deficiencies.
  3. Develop and support a team-based approach through daily communications meetings, working cross functionally and reinforcing overall company objectives.
  4. Develop and monitor key metrics to assess productivity and cost management.
  5. Organize and facilitate continuous improvement projects and production support activities as part of a cross functional work team.
  6. Act as lean manufacturing champion within value stream and implement lean concepts to eliminate waste.
  7. Work with Management to establish goals and objectives for the team in alignment with company strategic goals.
  8. Set and communicate goals and objectives for employees. Monitor performance and give recognition and take corrective action when necessary. Conduct performance reviews in a timely manner for all members of the department.
  9. Identify cross training opportunities and implement wherever possible to expand employee skills and flexibility.
  10. Coach and develop all employees as opportunities present themselves. Seek coaching moments and offer assistance or suggestions whenever possible and appropriate.
  11. Utilize quality management techniques for problem solving, corrective action and process decisions.
  12. Proactively develop, implement and support systems to achieve cost reductions, quality improvements, productivity increases and service improvements.
  13. Research, justify, procure and implement new technology to maximize the production areas effectiveness and profitability.
  14. Develop staffing plan. Interview and hire new regular and temporary employees. Schedule necessary training and facilitate new hire orientation.
  15. Participate in the development of operating budget.  Maintain expenses to approved plan, or provide justification for supplemental expenditures as required.
  16. Must work well with others.
  17. Ensures a safe work environment by reviewing production standards, OSHA requirements, and recognizing and resolving safety-related problems. 
  18. Perform other related duties as assigned.

 

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Recruit, hire, and retain high performing team.
  • Define employee objectives, conduct performance reviews, and recommend salary adjustments.
  • Meet all assigned performance objectives.
  • Coach and mentor direct reports.
  • Define and execute required training programs to address product, application, process, and technology training needs.
  • Mentor new employees with their transition into the company.
  • Work with peers in management to drive the execution of continuous improvement projects.

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS

 

Education

Bachelor’s degree is required. Bachelor’s degree in a technical field is desired.

 

Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a manufacturing environment is required
  • Experience with direct supervision of employees
  • Experience with SAP or another ERP system
  • Experience implementing best practices in a production environment

  • Lean manufacturing practices
  • Employee relations and supervision
  • Policy and process development and continuous improvement in a manufacturing setting
  • ERP/MRP and scheduling systems
  • Manufacturing concepts, practices and procedures
  • ISO9001 and/or ISO17025
  • Effective leadership concepts
