The Senior Algorithms Engineer will play a key role in the design, development, and optimization of advanced algorithms for our measurement instrumentation products. Leveraging expertise in signal processing, data analysis, and algorithmic optimization, this role will contribute to the enhancement of our products' performance, accuracy, and reliability.  The Senior Algorithms Engineer will apply algorithms, through creation of firmware and software code on multiple platforms, in a wide variety of products with applications in aerosol physics, particle counting, gas concentration measurement and speciation, agriculture, seed counting, vehicle control, ventilation/humidity/air flow/velocity, and indoor/outdoor air quality.

 

What Will You Do?

In order to grow and build a successful career with TSI, you will be responsible for:

  • Algorithm Development: Design and implement advanced algorithms for signal processing, data analysis, feature extraction, and classification tailored to specific measurement applications.
  • Algorithm Optimization: Optimize algorithms for efficiency, accuracy, and real-time performance, considering resource constraints typical in embedded systems.
  • Integration and Testing: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate algorithms into firmware/software platforms and conduct thorough testing to ensure robustness and functionality.
  • Performance Analysis: Evaluate algorithm performance through extensive testing and analysis, identifying areas for improvement and optimization.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Document algorithms, methodologies, and test results comprehensively, and provide clear and concise reports to stakeholders.
  • Technical Leadership: Provide guidance and mentorship to junior engineers, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous learning within the team.
  • Research and Innovation: Stay abreast of the latest developments in algorithmic techniques, signal processing methodologies, and related fields, and explore innovative approaches to address evolving customer needs and market trends. 
  • Contrib to the research and technology roadmap for the organization and present on opportunities to a broader group.
  • Creation of firmware and software code for sensors and measurement instrumentation employing said algorithms.
  • Provide consulting across the organization to address problems and recommend solutions.
  • Participate in design reviews.  Give critical and constructive feedback to improve the reviewed designs.
  • Work cooperatively with other departments to develop best practices.

 

What Do You Need?
Required

  • BS in electrical engineering, computer engineering, computer science, mathematics, applied physics or similar from an established research institution.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a product development environment
  • Experience writing firmware or software, including for embedded systems
  • Experience developing new measurement algorithms or enhancing existing data inversions or algorithms.
  • Proven track record of implementing/developing algorithms in a variety of applications such as particle counting and sizing, biodetection, agriculture, radar applications, image analysis, or fluids.
  • Ability to translate theory into physical measurements through appropriate reduction of data through proven algorithmic approaches.
  • Background in mathematical transforms of experimental parameters into physical results.
  • Coding experience in C, C++, C# or related advanced language.

 

Desired

  • MS or Ph.D. in electrical engineering, computer engineering, mathematics, applied physics or similar from an established research institution.
  • Background in statistics, linear algebra, matrix inversion, operational mathematics, Fourier transforms, and wavelet transforms, especially as implemented through numerical methods
  • Experience with machine learning and artificial intelligence and applying to sensing and measurements.
  • Experience with image processing techniques; data pattern extraction, recognition and analysis; or data visualization and presentation
  • Experience planning and executing verification and validation testing of firmware and software features, including laboratory measurement testing.
  • Background in aerosol physics, particle counting and sizing, biodetection algorithms, gas detection, and chemical analysis
  • Experience conducting and documenting laboratory experiments
