Senior Mechanical Engineer

The Senior Mechanical Engineer demonstrates a thorough understanding of a focused and highly disciplined approach to engineering project work and independently solves complex problems associated with the design, development and manufacturing of products.  This person will assume leadership of Mechanical Engineering activities on projects and mentor Engineers at level I and II.   This person must also effectively communicate in cross functional teams that span all engineering disciplines, marketing, sales, and production.



  • Independently design and develop the mechanical portions of electronic instruments and integrate solutions with the electrical and software design portions.
  • Use industrial design concepts to create or further develop case designs for instruments.
  • Design and support injection molded designs, other types molding design (RIM, vacuum forming, etc.), machined parts design and rapid prototyping techniques.
  • Understand design, performance and cost tradeoffs and make recommendations for optimization.
  • Support rapid cycles of design/test/model/experiment/analyze that are complex in nature.
  • Evaluate potential solutions to engineering problems for feasibility, manufacturability, and cost effectiveness.
  • Accurately estimate task duration and resource requirements to meet project commitments.
  • Design parts in Creo and SolidWorks
  • Support product design by testing sub-systems and products in a lab (functional testing, drop test, vibration test, etc.)
  • May serve as a technical lead on projects and provide guidance to other engineers or technicians.
  • Responsible for providing strong documentation and specifications on project work.
  • Other duties as assigned.




  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering
    • If a Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering is held, substitutions may be made for the Bachelor's degree. 
  • 5+ years of experience in product development and mechanical engineering experience 
  • Experience with injection moded part design
  • Experience with 3D CAD software



  • Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Product Development experience on a project from the concept phase through the launch phase with leadership over the mechanical portion
  • Experience leading and mentoring other engineers
  • Rapid prototype techniques
  • Experience with product verification and validation testing for mechanical components
  • Experience in developing verification and validation test plans
