MSP, A division of TSI, is a fast-moving and agile organization experiencing tremendous growth from our field-proven proprietary technology designed to vaporize liquid precursors in challenging Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD) and Atomic Layer Deposition (ALD) processes. Senior Scientist at MSP
The Senior Scientist will be responsible for design, development, and technical support of Vaporizers, Filters, and Liquid Flow Controllers designed for Semiconductor Process Equipment. This person will play an influential role in the evaluation and the commercialization of technology related to MSP's Vaporizer Products and emerging product spaces, and will serve as an advanced technical resource for engineers and technical staff. Among other skills, this person requires an Expert level of working knowledge of mathematical modeling tools, heat transfer, thermodynamics of single-phase flows and strong knowledge for complex mixed-phase flows. This person will also apply knowledge of chemical reactions and chemical compatibility to develop, lead, and maintain chemical lab safety procedures and programs. Knowledge of material and chemical properties and processes related to semiconductor manufacturing is a plus. Among other tasks, the Thermal-Fluid Scientist will work with multi-disciplinary design teams to define technical requirements, determine feasibility, and lay out and maintain a technology roadmap for future products. This person may also provide consulting across the organization to address problems and recommend solutions.
What Will You Do?
In order to grow and build a successful career with MSP, you will be responsible for:
- Apply 1st principles of heat transfer and fluid flow to Semiconductor technologies.
- Evaluate existing methods and develop improved methods for liquid flow control and vaporization for Semiconductor or Industrial manufacturing.
- Evaluate measurement concepts and algorithms for merit and demonstrate ability to convert theoretical concepts into cost-effective, manufacturable instruments.
- Support existing methods and contribute ideas to improve the company’s core competency in the area of liquid vaporization and flow control. Respond to advanced technical questions from the field.
- Be a technical driver of projects and be able to look at the project from a systems level – have a working knowledge of all technical aspects (software, hardware, algorithms, and current literature).
- Apply chemical compatibility, chemical reactions, and chemical lab safety knowledge to establish, maintain, and lead safe handling practices for vaporization and liquid flow control work.
- Keep active in the fields of interest by reviewing literature, interacting with existing and potential collaborators, and networking with Industrial and Academic colleagues.
- Work with leaders in the field to evaluate, develop and implement advanced measurement techniques. This can include working from published literature or directly with developers of licensed technologies.
- Publish papers and generate patent applications relating to the company’s measurement needs. This position requires someone that will present a confident and capable impression to customers by presenting engaging and relevant papers related to the field of liquid vaporization and flow control technology for Semiconductor and Industrial manufacturing.
- Involvement in key technical committees related to liquid vaporization or Semiconductor manufacturing. Build relationships with key personnel in the industry.
- Participate in technical feasibility projects.
- Note that this is not a pure R&D position or function.
- Some travel to key trade shows, conferences, customer visits to present papers and bring back technical knowledge of the state of the art, competition, and voice of customer.
What Do You Need?
Education
- PhD in either Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Physics, or Materials Science is required
Experience
- Expert knowledge of thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, flow modeling, and heat transfer for single-phase flows and strong knowledge of multiphase systems.
- Knowledge of chemistry including molecular classification, chemical compatibility, and decomposition reactions.
- Knowledge of MSDS and proper chemical testing safety procedures.
- Experience operating in or leading Chemical Lab Safety programs.
- Knowledge of droplet particle structure, morphology, evaporation models, and other physical properties of droplets.
- Knowledge of ALD, CVD, PECVD etc. processes preferred
- Understand problems and best-practice solutions in vaporizing precursor material for semiconductor manufacturing. Coatings technology experience preferred.
- A toolbox of theoretical and practical tools to tackle problems (simulation tools, CAD, modeling tools).
- Experience with modeling tools such as COMSOL, ANSYS, MATLAB, Mathcad, and Flow.
- Proficiency in a programming language such as Visual Basic, Python or C/C++.
- Excellent hands-on experimentalist, rigorous documentation and reporting.
- Help define product requirements for instruments.
- Working knowledge of generating and interpreting intellectual property.
- History of high-quality publications.

Pay & Benefits:
Competitive market salary from $125,000-$135,000 per year* depending on qualifications and experience. For eligible Leadership and individual contributor roles, additional bonus opportunities may be available and awarded at the discretion of the Company.
