Who Are We?
Are you someone that likes new challenges? Do you want to explore new technologies and help solve some of the world’s most difficult problems, like air quality and safety solutions? At TSI, these opportunities are real. Our engineers work with industry-leading experts both internally and externally. We encourage and enable our engineers to get into the field with customers to better understand their issues and solve their problems. At TSI, you make a difference – every day.
Senior Systems Engineer at TSI
The Senior Systems Engineer is a high-profile position with overall technical responsibility for developing a high-quality solution to solve customer requirements. This includes demonstrating a thorough understanding of systems thinking applied to product development, including a broad working knowledge of mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, firmware, software, reliability testing, verification, validation, and production. This person will be a member of a new product development (NPD) leadership team, consisting of a systems engineer, project manager and product/marketing manager, overseeing one or more projects. In addition, the Senior Systems Engineer must effectively communicate technical direction to senior management and across functional teams that span all engineering disciplines, marketing, sales, quality, supply chain, and operations.
What Will You Do?
In order to grow and build a successful career with TSI, you will:
- Lead the development of the overall technical solution for new product development projects. This includes development of product requirements and a system architecture to achieve those product requirements. It also includes providing system guidance to engineers in various disciplines (mechanical, electrical, firmware, and software) and validating that the designs developed by the various disciplines integrate correctly and address the product requirements.
- Generate technical requirements based on customer requirements, technical tradeoffs (cost vs. function vs. time-to-market vs. quality), compliance, manufacturing, and service requirements. Work with the product manager to validate customer requirements based on the tradeoffs arising from them.
- Develop a system architecture capable of meeting the technical and product requirements. Consider portioning of project into modular subsystems and interfaces, tradeoffs of the proposed design, and reuse of modules.
- Provide high level system context to the engineering (mechanical, electrical hardware, firmware, and desktop/cloud software) team members and validate the output from these teams in the context of the project. Evaluate engineering alternatives, understand team capabilities, improve collaboration/interfaces, and reduce risks between the engineering disciplines.
- Gather, develop, and maintain the technical project schedule. Collaborate with the project manager to integrate the technical schedule with the overall schedule that includes non-engineering project members.
- Work with the engineering team to drive the completion of the subsystems and to integrate them together. Validate the quality and fitness for purpose of the various subsystems developed by the individual engineering contributors.
- Ensure compliance, verification and validation test methods and measurements, and ensure conformance to the product requirements.
- Exhibit high attention to detail and strong organizational skills, including engineering knowledge capture, transfer, presentation, and dissemination during and after a project completion.
- Exhibit excellent communications skills, including demonstrated ability to effectively present information/status to senior management team, customers, project-team members, vendors and cross-functional stakeholders of the product development process.
- Mentor other systems engineers in best practices, by auditing programs led by other systems engineers, hosting systems engineering meetings, and/or developing guidance and procedure documents.
What Do You Need?
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering/Science
- Minimum of 8 years of engineering responsibilities in technical product development
- Demonstrated technical team leadership in Systems Engineering or Engineering lead/supervisor role
Desired
- Master’s or Ph.D. degree in Engineering or B.S./M.S. degree in Systems Engineering from an established research institution
- Experience in metrology, filtration, particle measurements in liquids and gases
- Systems engineering responsibilities in technical product development, such as metrology instrumentation incorporating high-performance mechanical parts, digital/analog electronics, software/firmware and graphical user interface
