Who Are We?
Are you someone that likes new challenges? Do you want to explore new technologies and help solve some of the world’s most difficult problems, like air quality and safety solutions? At TSI, these opportunities are real. Our engineers work with industry-leading experts both internally and externally. We encourage and enable our engineers to get into the field with customers to better understand their issues and solve their problems. At TSI, you make a difference – every day.
Systems Engineer II at TSI
The system engineer is a high-profile position with overall technical responsibility for developing a high-quality product. This includes demonstrating a thorough understanding of systems thinking applied to product development, including a broad working knowledge of mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, firmware, software, reliability testing, verification, validation and production. This person will be a member of a new product development (NPD) leadership team consisting of a systems engineer, project manager and product/marketing manager overseeing one or more projects. In addition, the systems engineer must effectively communicate technical direction to senior management and across functional teams that span all engineering disciplines, marketing, sales, quality, supply chain, and operations.
What Will You Do?
In order to grow and build a successful career with TSI, you will be responsible for:
- Overall technical responsibility for a project, including generating technical requirements based on customer requirements, technical tradeoffs (cost vs. function vs. time-to-market vs. quality), manufacturing & service requirements.
- Understanding the derivation of product requirements (both customer and technical) and the establishment of test / compliance methods and measurements to assure conformance to those requirements.
- System architecture and the partitioning of product requirements into major and minor subsystems. Can communicate these flow-down requirements to responsible team members.
- Identifying optimal interfaces among system components, budgeting of common (shared) system-level requirements, and managing these interfaces and budgets dynamically and effectively.
- Ensuring manufacturability, serviceability, and effective supply chain through cross-functional design efforts. Ensuring that validation test results meet or exceed customer requirements.
- Having an excellent understanding of the application and customer requirements of the product, from vendor and supply chain to operations to service to customer use and end-of-life product retirement.
- Evaluating engineering discipline alternatives (mechanical, electrical, software, firmware, etc.), understands capabilities in each discipline, improves cross collaboration/interfaces, and reduces risks between the engineering disciplines.
- Working with program manager to maintain programmatic and technical documentation to ensure efficient planning and execution. Ability to manage time well and prioritize efforts under the pressure of time constraints.
- Having high attention to detail and strong organizational skills, including engineering knowledge capture, transfer, presentation, and dissemination during and after a project completion.
- Having excellent communications skills including demonstrated ability to effectively present information/status to senior management team, customers, project-team members, vendors and cross-functional stakeholders of the product development process.
- Utilizing Lean NPD methodologies to bring a high-quality design to market within budget and timeline goals.
- Evaluating intellectual property position for project.
